Hokianga Awhi Trust began with a simple mission: to give youth a step up in life, by supporting and preparing them to thrive through education, sport, life and daily structure that they would not otherwise have access to.
Hokianga Awhi Trust connected with Fuman through Creators Aotearoa, a not-for-profit platform that brings together designers, strategists, and marketing and PR professionals with philanthropic causes. By harnessing the power of creativity, Creators Aotearoa helps elevate organisations doing meaningful work across Aotearoa.
When Fuman discovered Creators Aotearoa, we immediately joined as collaborators, eager to donate our time and skills to help drive positive change. Hokianga Awhi Trust’s mission aligned seamlessly with our ethos and values, supporting tamariki to access education and opportunities that might otherwise be out of reach.
The Trust serves the region of Hokianga in Northland, known for its breathtaking landscapes and close-knit communities. Despite its beauty, many of these communities lack access to the full range of educational and sporting opportunities available to children in larger metropolitan areas of Aotearoa.
Hokianga Awhi Trust exists to bridge that gap. By providing education, resources, and practical support, the Trust gives underprivileged rangatahi a meaningful step up in life. This support includes school uniforms, boarding school costs, school fees, transport, essential equipment, and even pocket money for everyday needs such as phone top-ups.
A unique and defining aspect of Hokianga Awhi Trust is that 100% of all proceeds go directly to the tamariki the Trust supports, with no donations allocated to operational costs.
Fuman was honoured to work alongside the Trust, designing a visual identity, merchandise, and website to create a strong, consistent brand presence that builds credibility and encourages support. Throughout the process, we were inspired by the warmth and friendliness of the Trust’s founder Kyle Brown and the community he serves. We wanted this to be reflected throughout the identity through a warm, welcoming colour palette and approachable typography.
Tamariki, like the waters of the Hokianga harbour, must flow outward to gain opportunities but will always remain connected to their home. We captured this metaphor and embedded it into the identity via water channels etched into the logomark, and coastal imagery used throughout the brand; conveying the support and connection that these children will always have with their community in Hokianga.
We are grateful for the opportunity to work with Hokianga Awhi Trust, and for organisations like the Trust and Creators Aotearoa that connect creativity with powerful, meaningful causes that drive real, positive change.
